Our ApproachSAP Calculations, Predicted Energy Assessments (PEAs), BREL Reports and EPCs for new build homes at Designed or As Built stages
Buildings where the number of dwellings changes need SAP Calculations. We can also produce your Predicted Energy Assessment at design stage and EPC at completion.
There are multiple routes to compliace for an extension with Part L. You may not need a full SAP Calculation if your extension is overglazed.
A SAP Calculation is only useful if it helps to move your project towards compliance. Most projects do not pass Part L requirements without at least a little tweaking. This is where picking the right SAP Assessor becomes important.
If a project falls short, you need a SAP Assessor who can identify the areas that will provide the highest return on investment without a complete overhaul of the design. This could be as simple as minor alteration to the heating system, insulation or even the extractor fans.
This requires a deep understanding of the project and the clients red lines, which often goes beyond looking at architectural drawings. There is little value in recommending an air source heat pump or solar PV system just to tick a box.
We'll provide practical solutions to pass your SAP calculation.
We will assess the drawings and specification to understand how the project has been designed and hwo it is to be constructed.
Once we have completed the first run through of the calculation, we will be able to highlight the elements that are having the largest impact on the result.
We will recommend sensible changes that will have the highest return on investment for your design.
If the design changes, let us know. We can rerun the SAP Calculation model, provide updated calculations and advice if needed.
We currently assess building regulations energy compliance using the SAP 10.2 methodology. From March 2027, the Future Homes Standard (FHS) will introduce tougher energy efficiency standards for new homes, with SAP 10.3 initially used to demonstrate compliance.
The Home Energy Model (HEM) is being developed as a long term replacement for SAP, with its introduction expected to roll out alongside the FHS. Once introduced, HEM and SAP 10.3 are expected to run in parallel for a transitional period before HEM becomes the sole methodology.
We're preparing for both of these major industry changes now, keeping up with the regulations, methodology and software, so our advice stays current as throughout the transition.
